The war-torn age is coming to an end. Many great armies have fallen quiet, but the Mercenary Guild remains a vast organization built around hired mercenaries, scouts, and soldiers whose skills were forged during decades of war. With large-scale conflicts becoming less common, the Guild is struggling to find its place in the changing world, even as border skirmishes continue and a growing surge of monsters threatens the newly reopened roads and trade routes. For one Bronze rank Mercenary, little has changed. The past four years, he has simply wandered. He travels lesser-known roads, forgotten trails, and poorly documented stretches of wilderness, recording what he encounters along the way, where the roads become dangerous, what creatures inhabit them, and the small things a traveller ought to know before passing through. The local Guild Master has taken notice of him and one day he offers the wanderer a simple errand, carry a sealed parcel to the Head Archivist at the Grand Library. It sounds like an ordinary job. It pays well, and more importantly, it gives him another road to wander. So, with his backpack, his two books and a Veyr that accompany him on his travels, the Bronze-rank Mercenary sets out for the Grand Library. After all, it's just another road. And there is always something worth writing down at the end of it. This is a slow-burn, slice of life, fantasy journey. Expect travelling, wilderness, villages, towns, caravans, old roads, family correspondence, and the occasional fight with monsters. The focus is on the journey, the small details along the way, and the people encountered between one destination and the next. P.S.
