The Taste Was Just the Beginning During the day, Sam spent her life sleeping through college classes she barely understood before dragging herself through exhausting shifts at a failing retail megastore she barely cared about. She flunked exams, forgot assignments, and couldn't bring herself to care when her managers were rewarded with raises when she barely made rent. Her apartment was cramped, her future was uncertain, and her life felt like it was going nowhere. But at night, she became Sent1n3l, the most powerful Vanguard in the history of Forgotten Falsehoods Online. Better known as FFO, Forgotten Falsehoods Online was the world's most popular MMORPG. With everything from outrageously complicated warfare to skill systems that pushed the limits of imagination, FFO offered everything Sam dreamed of. She, along with millions of other players across the globe, had been hooked from the very beginning, and after thousands of hours playing her Vanguard character, Sam had earned a place among the game's elite. Even so, she had always been frustrated by the knowledge that she was just one step away from joining the players at the very top. So when she was rewarded with the [Chalice of Immortality], an artifact capable of creating an entirely new vampire character, Sam jumped at the opportunity to start anew. Perhaps this new character, whom she named Evelyn, would finally give her the power she needed to surpass the legends who had always remained just out of reach. Then, before she even had the chance to kill her very first monster, Sam died. And awakens to find herself inside FFO—the world she'd spent the last five years getting lost in. For some, it would have been a dream come true, but for Sam, it's a nightmare. Because she isn't playing as Sent1n3l, her max-level Vanguard character, but as Evelyn, the level-one vampire she'd only just created. Now trapped in a body that's weak, starving, and unmistakably vampiric, Evelyn has to contend with a new problem: her new body demands blood by the gallon, and every drop she drinks brings with it a hunger more intoxicating than the last. If she wants to survive, Evelyn will have to master a character she barely understands, satisfy a hunger she can't control, and somehow resist the urge to turn every living thing she encounters into her next meal.
