Gu Yue House has no house. Beyond the Jade Gate, it is only a wandering food cart, an old camel named Toto, a sharp-eyed shopkeeper with an abacus, and Bai, a white-haired cook who rarely speaks. Then Chen Zui stops by for a bowl of noodles. One fight, one suspiciously one-sided employment deal, and eighty wen later, the young swordsman somehow finds himself heading west with them. Their goal? To find the tongue of a Mirage Beast—the missing ingredient Bai needs to complete a mysterious recipe called Taste of the Mortal World. One problem: Shopkeeper Hu has no idea where the beast is. So they travel. The road is long, the food is hot, the yao are strange, and there is always another customer waiting somewhere ahead. A Chinese-inspired fantasy road story about food, folklore, found family, strange encounters, and a wandering restaurant called Gu Yue House.
