An unstoppable empire meets an immovable man.Magic portals open up all over the world, and Malachi loses everything to them. Each new rift brings monsters and magic wielders. It’s a war against Earth—and Earth is losing. But Malachi’s got a home to defend, a missing sister to find, and a chip on his shoulder. When an operation goes wrong, he finds himself trapped on the other side of a new kind of portal, facing certain death. But with danger comes opportunity. He gains the System the invaders' magic comes from, letting him grow in power: classes, magic, enchanted weapons and armor, abilities that can be merged, and secret knowledge.Malachi faces deadly foes in the realms beyond the portals, but also allies. Monstrous humanoids who are willing to help turn the tide against the invading empire, who will delve dungeons, travel the realms, and fight to save what they care about most. People like him who refuse to give up. The odds are impossible, but if there’s one thing Malachi has, it’s tenacity. The empire will break before he does.
