Dan Fredrickson now lives with a bad leg, some war spoils, and a calvary horse and no desire to see a battlefield ever again. These days, the he is only concerned about keeping the Primrose Saloon running, tending to his farm, and making sure that his horse, Bitty, doesn't get into trouble. With the cessation of hostilities ending their war, a woman, from the opposing faction, wanders into his saloon, with her two children, fifty cents, and nowhere else to go. To his town's disapointment he offers her a job at his saloon. Then an old army friend rides into danger, Dan finds himself saddling Bitty once again. He rides into a new battlefield with a half charged rifle, the local sheriff, and a reluctant soldier, and a bad knee. He realizes that though he thought he was done fighting his world had other plans.
