With this second contract, I’m really looking to expand the world. We’re nowhere near seeing other worlds yet, but leaving the Darkspires slums for the outside districts on a dangerous job feels like the right next step. This time, the mark is a corporate tycoon who’s obstructing Lumen Collective mining operations. It’s more interesting than it sounds — a perfect setup for pushing deeper into my expanded xianxia‑dieselpunk world. But stepping beyond Darkspires always forces the same question: if the world is built from rust, qi‑smoke, and the bones of old empires, then what does it mean to choose a path at all? Out here, destiny isn’t a celestial decree — it’s a negotiation between the machines that keep you alive and the spirits that remember who you used to be. The tycoon’s blockade isn’t just political. It’s philosophical. He believes the Lumen veins beneath the districts are conscious — that mining them is a kind of murder. The Collective says that’s superstition. The cultivators say the veins dream. And the slum‑born say destiny is just another word rich men use to justify their machinery. So when you take this contract, you’re not just hunting a man. You’re testing whether choice exists in a world where qi can be refined, fate can be engineered, and the future can be welded shut like a boiler plate. Maybe the real danger isn’t the job. Maybe it’s discovering whether you’re shaping your destiny… or simply walking the path someone else forged in the smoke long before you were born.
