Life rarely turned out the way anybody expected. So it was for Maia Endrell, who had once had a cosy future set up for her. Break a few simple curses here and there, spend most of her time cosied up next to a fire doing research or just enjoying life. Of course, as should perhaps have been expected, this was not the life she got. Years after that particular dream had all but vanished into the wind, however, saddled with a body that was barely her own and a masterwork curse that even she couldn't break, she found herself stagnating. Settled, for lack of a less mundane term, in the middle of a wasteland, her only company a mining outpost that had long since branded her as other, untrustworthy and potentially malign. Perhaps she should have been excited when adventure found her in the form of a strangely well-dressed devil and inadvertently introduced her to possibly the most eccentric individual she had ever met: and after the life she had lead, that was saying something. This person had a sort of magnetism, though, and the pair found themselves inextricably bound to one another: one in search of intrigue and adventure, and the other seeking a way out of her emotional slump. Not that she minded, no matter what she said. She hadn't been up to much anyway. Perhaps this would even be fun, once she got used to getting attacked in her sleep. What to expect: - Horizontal power progression: little in terms of raw power, more just an increase in versatility and experience. - DnD inspired magic system. - A potential for existential dread. - A secondary MC that solves most problems with violence. - GL Romance (I can't help myself) - 2-4k Chapter length. This fiction takes place in the same setting as my other story, Feywild 101. While the characters are unrelated, and you certainly don't need to read it to understand this story, you may find it easier to understand the setting if you have. No obligation, I'll do my best to make it clear for people who don't want to read my first story, but I felt the need to clarify this here just in case. Enjoy!
