They crossed an ocean to escape a war. They found a land that was already alive. When Edward's people wash ashore on green land they cannot name, they bring nothing but hunger and a prince too young to lead. The jungle has food, water, shelter — and people who were there first. People whose staffs can move the earth. An old woman breaks a branch from a tree and offers it to the invaders. It is not a gift. It is a test. Ten years later, the jungle is gone. A boy with blood from both sides picks up a broken twig, and the trees answer. He is the last person who can stop what is coming — but what is coming wears his grandfather's face. The Channel of Power is a dark fantasy novella about colonisation, corruption, and a ten-year-old boy who walks into a cave knowing he will never walk out.
