Five hundred and sixty years ago, Mas became immortal.
Now, he lives inside City 91, one of countless walled cities built to protect humanity from the dangerous world outside. Beyond those walls are vast plains, strange creatures descended from the first Earth, other nations, and a world Mas believes is far too beautiful to be disturbed.
Humanity has created its own paradise.
Or so Mas believes.
Mas is a scout, chosen to venture beyond the walls and gather what his city needs to survive. He's arrogant, immature, and far too comfortable with the idea that the walls are necessary. To him, the outside world is beautiful precisely because humanity has kept itself from touching it.
Then he meets Lancer.
Lancer wants to destroy the walls.
Mas wants to protect them.
Neither intends to back down.
As the two begin their rivalry, Mas will be forced to question everything he has believed about the Second Earth, the nations beyond his city, and the immortality that has kept him alive for centuries.
Because the walls may be protecting humanity from the outside world.
Or they may be protecting the outside world from humanity.
And Mas intends to find out which.
