Life can be hard sometimes. Particularly when it ends, and especially if that end involves being murdered by a deranged, pretentious occult author you thought you could trust. Awakening in Purgatory, you find yourself at the beginning of an adventure you didn't choose, with only one remaining choice: to press on, or to give up. "What did you say about a murder?" you ask. "Nothing," I reply. Unable to recall the memories of your no doubt incredibly fulfilling life, you face a fresh start in a seemingly unsatisfying eternity, and know of only one other who shares your secret. Fortunately for the word count, that fella's a tad restless, and soon yanks you somewhat willingly into a harrowing journey featuring angels, demons, magic, divine bureaucracy, a shotgun-toting restaurateur, a mulch-minded magus, a meek berserker, a lot of other weird nonsense, and the ever-present desire to seek out the very heart of creation. "So it's like a road trip book set in the afterlife?" you say. "Is that all?""...Can you go ahead and hop up on that table for me?" I reply. "This won't take long." Such is life. Or rather, such as it was.

Both levers trail the field
Traffic and conversion are both below comparable stories. Cadence is the first lever — stories posting near-daily reached 25 followers 17% of the time; stories posting every few days almost never did. Get the flow going, then re-check conversion.
Benchmarks: 8,060 active Royal Road stories, percentiles within the 5–9 chapters band, cohort of 2026-07-02. Conversion is measured as followers gained per 1,000 views lifetime.
