For thousands of years, the world of Aethros has believed in one absolute truth. Every person awakens to one of the Nine Paths, the sacred powers that govern all existence. From birth, a person's future is decided by the Path they receive. Kingdoms are built upon it. Religions worship it. Wars are fought because of it. There has never been a Tenth Path. Or so history claims. When a young man named Aren awakens to an ability that no one can identify, he is branded as a failure. His power doesn't belong to any of the Nine Paths, making him an anomaly feared by scholars and condemned by the powerful.
