A young monk banished from his monastery to experience the world meets a dying girl and an old king. The empire of Thera is a theocratic state ruled by Lord Nilion, the coming king. And for a thousand years they've been preparing for the arrival of the pinhole. They choose to head south, to the girl's home and the monk's destination but can they arrive before the signs of darkness reveal its source?
