what's left Seven years old, and the only thing Rian remembers clearly is the fire.
Azeron, the King of Darkness, and his army of shapeshifting demons reduced his village to ash in a single night. He was the only survivor.
Ten years later, Rian is no longer a frightened child hiding in the dark. He has fought his way into the Grand Military Academy, training alongside soldiers who will one day stand against the demon horde — creatures who can drink a person's blood and become them, copying every skill, every strength, down to the last movement.
Rian isn't the strongest in his class. He isn't the most gifted, or the most talented. But he has something most don't: the will to survive, and the senses to outlast anyone who thinks power alone wins wars.As Rian is pulled deeper into a war that has raged for generations, he begins to uncover truths the world has hidden for centuries — about the demons, about Azeron, and about the very nature of the enemy he swore to destroy.
Not every monster was born one. And not every war has a side that's right.
This is a story of fire, of ash, and of of a person after both have taken everything.
