by Kaelid
In Kaelid’s village, every child is born with hair the color of fire or the sea. For generations, there have been no exceptions. Kaelid was born with neither. With black hair no one can explain and a village that has spent sixteen years treating him like a bad omen, Kaelid wants only one thing: to leave. So after his sixteenth birthday, armed with little more than a sword, a few supplies, and far more confidence than experience, he sets out to become a wanderer. The world beyond home is harsher than he imagined. Monsters don’t care about determination. Talent doesn’t replace experience. And strength isn’t handed out simply because someone wants it badly enough. Every step has to be earned. Kaelid begins at the bottom—poor, inexperienced, and nowhere near Enlightenment, the first major step on a journey that has no clear end. But Enlightenment is more than power. Those who reach it emerge changed, their souls marked by a virtue or sin that reflects who they are—and by the scars of what it took to get there. And Kaelid won’t be making that climb alone. Along the way, a simple partnership grows into a party. The party becomes a home. Strangers become friends, mentors become family, and the boy who left everything behind in search of adventure slowly finds himself building something worth returning to. They’ll hunt monsters, chase impossible goals, argue over chores, spend money faster than they can earn it, survive fights they probably shouldn’t, and grow stronger one hard-earned step at a time. The climb is long. Fortunately, no one in Arcadia has to make it alone.
