Everyone else from his world was classified as a monster. Evan Su was the only one given a player interface. Half an hour after dying on Earth, Evan wakes on the deserted planet Blue Star. Before he can make sense of his second life, the Road Survival Game drafts him again—this time behind the wheel of a battered pickup truck with thirty units of fuel and a wall of gray mist closing in behind him. The rules are simple: keep driving, loot whatever appears beside the road, upgrade the vehicle, and never let the mist catch up. Then five “monsters” ambush him at the starting line. They look human. They speak his language. And they are just as horrified to discover that Evan is both human and a registered player. For reasons no one understands, the system has turned the rest of humanity into hostile mobs while giving Evan access to inventories, rankings, Traits, instances, and rewards meant for other species. Trapped between civilizations competing to survive, Evan must use his impossible status to gather resources, build an evolving war machine, and carve out a road for humanity before the protection period ends. The gray mist is always moving. So is he.
