The General's Diary (Etherra saga, vol. 1)

Our sky, the sky of those who live underground, had never brought us fear. Then metal began falling from it. Not the kind we, who live in the depths, are familiar with. It was a strange metal, drilled through and assembled into terrifying humanoid shapes. Some spoke to us in human voices, begging us to end their suffering, while others were already falling apart. Panic broke out among the citizens. What on earth is going on? Who is sending us this weird steel, with an aura as if it didn't come from this world? Who is poisoning our homeland and the minds of my people? As a general, I will have to find out. I cannot let my homeland or my queen down. Whoever is responsible for my country's suffering will pay for it, even if I have to go to hell with them.
