Jalen Marr arrives on Plumari Prime broke, hunted, and already counting exits in every room. The planet’s ban on bounty hunters is the only thing keeping him alive, and even that feels temporary. Everything he owned is gone, except Chloe62, the sharp, relentless assistant he trained to anticipate danger before he does. Serrik Vaul drags Jalen into the kethrite brokerage trade, where markets swing by the hour and every handshake hides a blade. Jalen navigates each deal like a trap, scanning for angles, betrayals, and debts that can swallow a man whole. Chloe62 watches his back, but even she can’t predict every threat. Jalen wants to rebuild a life. Chloe62 wants to keep hers. And in a system built to crush the unwary, paranoia might be the only thing keeping them both alive.

Hidden gem — exposure is the bottleneck
Readers who find this story follow it at a high rate; there just aren't enough of them. In our cohort data, near-daily posting lifted the odds of reaching 25 followers from ~0% to 17% — more chapters, shoutout swaps and ads buy the eyeballs this conversion deserves.
Benchmarks: 8,060 active Royal Road stories, percentiles within the 20–49 chapters band, cohort of 2026-07-02. Conversion is measured as followers gained per 1,000 views lifetime.
