Deep in the heart of the impenetrable rainforest lies the tropical kingdom of Junipitrois. Serene and beautiful, the kingdom has lived at peace and comfort for as long as any of its residents can remember. But Shire-Jynn Arisfyre, a young explorer from the outskirts of the nation, senses otherwise. After uncovering a potentially disastrous plot and having been met with nothing but disbelief, Shire-Jynn sets out on a perilous journey to save not only their kingdom but their entire empire from destruction, unaware of the deadly forces which lie in their path. extra tags: queernormative, quest-driven fantasy, no magic, semi-fantastical biology, they/them protagonist, mild violence and gore this fic will be rewritten at some point after I finish it, as it's been in the works for a number of years and I've outgrown the writing style of earlier chapters. that is to say, the prose improves as you read so don't take chapter one as it is!
