Eliza Gray hates everything and everyone. Without anyone to call a friend, her social life consists of arguing with her chameleon, Allan, and perfecting the art of the withering glare. Alone in a microscopic Alaskan town, she spends her days reading, singing, and killing houseplants.
So, when Death comes knocking on a Tuesday - literally - she's less afraid and more supremely annoyed. She greets the Grim Reaper with a rant about all the things she hasn’t done yet: skydiving, visiting Hawaii, learning chess, and, oh, finding true love.
Amused by her audacity, Death offers her a deal: one year to cram a lifetime of experiences into her miserable existence. The catch? He’ll be dropping by for regular check-ins. If she doesn’t make progress, it’s game over, and Eliza will be pushing up daisies sooner than later.
Now, she’s navigating disastrous dates, questionable life choices, and Death’s morbidly hilarious dating advice, which is somehow both terrible and weirdly helpful, and surprisingly, the visits slowly morph into a bizarre friendship.
As the weeks pass, Eliza reluctantly opens up to Martha, her eccentric septuagenarian neighbor whose zest for life is as infectious as it is exhausting. She also finds herself drawn into unlikely camaraderie with Arion, the reclusive hermit on the forest’s edge, whose gruff exterior hides unexpected depths and surprising moments of kindness.
Then she meets Alex: attractive, charming, and so perfect it’s almost suspicious. For a moment, everything seems to fall into place.
But time is running out, nothing is quite what it seems, and Eliza’s year is almost up...
