Lucas Reed is a freshman at RiverDale High School, home to one of the state’s best basketball programs… and its worst football team. Basketball was never his dream, only an escape. A way to become someone other than the son his parents expected him to be. Even that ended the day he failed to make the team. But Marco, a sophomore wide receiver who witnessed the tryouts, notices something no one else does. Lucas’s passes. They’re impossibly precise, cutting through defenses at impossible angles and surprising opponents and teammates alike. The coaches dismiss them as flashy throws from a kid trying to show off. Marco sees the missing piece RiverDale has been searching for. There’s just one problem. Lucas is the least athletic person he’s ever seen. Can a quarterback with a once-in-a-generation arm, but zero football experience, lead the state’s worst team to the playoffs?
