Some things happen once. Others leave a mark. At seven years old, Ashen survived a tragedy that should have taken his life. Ten years later, he has almost convinced himself that night was nothing more than a distant memory. Then he loses the last person he calls family. Grief, anger, and a need for answers lead Ashen toward a strange phenomenon in the mountains—a place where the forest seems wrong, where things move in the dark that should not exist, and where a mysterious crystal waits beneath the earth. Ashen goes there searching for answers. What he finds instead changes him. Now he must learn what happened to him, what the crystal has awakened, and why the strange presence surrounding his past seems to be drawing closer. Because surviving was never the end of Ashen's story. It was the beginning.
