The Martial Record

Shen Viremark, heir to the secluded Viremark Clan, is raised in Bitterwind Outpost where survival depends on discipline, observation, and a unique family method known as the Martial Record—a system of self-study that refines martial growth through analysis, memory, and correction. As sects across Murim favor spirit cultivation and hierarchical power, the Viremark Clan follows a body-first philosophy that is increasingly seen as outdated and dangerous. To prove their worth, children undergo The Choosing, a five-year survival trial in the deadly Lotus Woods where most fail, many are injured, and some never return. Before Shen begins his trial, his mother dies from an unexplained illness that even the clan’s greatest healers cannot cure. His grandfather, who once left in search of a cure, has never returned. Left with grief and expectations, Shen enters The Choosing carrying both personal loss and the burden of his clan’s legacy. Inside the wilderness, Shen must survive brutal trials, form fragile alliances, and confront the gap between talent and effort. At the same time, unseen forces in the wider Murim world begin searching for the origins of the Martial Record—a forbidden methodology created by Viremark Caelum, the Fallen Scholar of the Higher Realm. As external powers close in and internal traditions begin to fracture, Shen must decide whether to preserve the Viremark way, abandon it, or evolve it into something new capable of surviving a changing world.
