Chapter 1 – The Hunt Kira, a girl with weak kesh, is hunted through the forest by three Ankettes—predators who feed on kesh. Cornered, she makes one desperate attack, only to discover her body survives an impact that should have shattered it. Before the Ankettes can kill her, a mysterious Ankette named Vex intervenes. Recognized by their leader, Vex forces the pack to retreat without drawing a weapon.
