Grugel died badly. Not heroically. Not beautifully. Not as the great mind behind a new age of fusion energy. He died under people’s feet. Crushed by the panic of the same people who smiled beside him in photographs, ate beside him in cafeterias, and called him brilliant when it was useful. Then he wakes up in another body. A boy named Izel. A chosen child of the Sky House. A body with memories that are not his. A world that treats the sky like a machine made of blood, math, and prayer. A civilization built on cycles, sacrifice, and the rotten certainty that the gods are always owed something. There is a stone disk fused to his chest. There is a system in his mind. There are priests who read stars like ledgers. And above all of them, there is a sky that is cracking again. Grugel does not want to save this world because he is good. He does not even know if it deserves saving. He wants to survive. He wants answers. He wants control. And if the gods are real, then he wants to know what happens when someone finally starts treating them like a problem that can be solved.
