Chris reads numbers for a living and noise for fun. One night his overkill home lab logs something that should not be in the feed, and the analyst in him cannot let it go: a signal, buried in the static, that decodes into a casting call. A show. A season. And a planet, scheduled, decades out. His planet. His family, flagged. Nobody believes him. Not his wife. Not the company. Not the kids who just want their dad to come out of the office. Only Sarge, who reads patterns the way Chris reads people, looks at the data and says the worst thing: that's not noise. Then the show comes for Chris first. It drops him into a flawless copy of his own house, with a counterfeit wife and three counterfeit kids, and scores him on how convincingly he can pretend to be happy. Before Subscribe or Die, before the dungeon, before three kids from Puyallup broke the most-watched apocalypse in the galaxy, their father went into his office one night and did not come out. This is where he went. This is what it cost. And this is the door he left unlatched. A standalone prequel to The Broadcast. The Truman Show by way of an alien streaming platform, for anyone who has ever been right too early. Read the next page.
