World: Aethera — The World Tree Universe The cosmos is structured as an infinite World Tree, each world a fruit upon its branches. Mortals believe gods created the worlds, but the truth is older and stranger: the gods are parasitic higher-dimensional beings who cling to the Tree from outside, feeding upon the worlds they claim to shepherd. Power in Aethera is not energy — it is relationship. To understand a thing is to hold partial mastery over it. The deeper the understanding, the greater the mastery. This is why scholars are feared, why knowledge is suppressed, and why the most dangerous people in any age have always been those who would not stop asking questions.
