Torn from her arranged marriage, Princess Eraedia discovers firsthand the horrors of the world she’s been shielded from. An attack by rebels leaves her in the hands of Eastern slavers, where no one knows who she is and everyone believes the princess is dead. Sold to the highest bidder, Eraedia—Rae—endures months of hardship aboard the Azure Tide, stripped of her name and her voice. When the ship is attacked by enemy pirates, she finds herself aboard Nyneve’s Vengeance, the ship of the infamous Pirate King, known for chaining his enemies to their masts and sinking their ships. Nothing to worry about, right? Slowly, Rae discovers there is more to the Pirate King than the stories claim. He’s petty, crude, and mean—everything a princess is told to hate. Unfortunately, that only makes him more appealing. With the crew of Nyneve’s Vengeance, Rae begins to find something she thought she had lost forever: a family. But the Pirate Council, six rulers who control the pirates of the world, has set its sights on Rae and her crew. When the emerging Thallarian Empire offers protection in exchange for a dangerous task, Rae must decide how much she is willing to sacrifice to keep her new family alive. Meanwhile, in Sakaris, while the city lost a princess, Mavros Haelorus has lost his best friend and older sister. When everyone else begins to lose hope that Rae is still alive, Mavros refuses. Alongside Prince Asier, Rae’s betrothed, he searches across the continent for the missing princess. But with an empire rising in the West and kingdoms beginning to fall, Mavros is called home to fight a war of his own. Two siblings, worlds apart, fight for each other as the world tries to pry them apart. For Rae, survival may no longer be enough. For Mavros, giving up may mean losing his sister forever.
