An alt-history magical fantasy set in a world where the old gods appeared on earth in the early 19th C. stopping settler colonialism at the Mississippi and establishing the rule of magic in Alta California, a sovereign state within the Mexican Republic. This story takes place a hundred years later, a light adventure pitting a non binary Chinese-Mexican smuggler captain and their mainly indigenous and mestizo crew against a German scientist who seeks to steal a source of magical power away from the land.
