Ilyan should have died with the world he failed to save. He remembers the ley lines before they shattered. He remembers the Order before history turned them into monsters. He remembers the spell that should have killed him. Unfortunately, the world remembers him too. Centuries after his death, Ilyan wakes in a stranger’s body, weak, nameless, and surrounded by a civilization built on the bones of his failure. Magic has changed. Spirits are bound through marks. Old techniques are forbidden. The Order is blamed for the Sundering, and anyone who knows too much about the past is either dangerous, insane, or dead. So Ilyan does the only sensible thing. He takes a new name, joins the lowest ranks of the modern system, and tries to rebuild his strength without exposing what he really is. But ancient wards still open for him. Broken machines still respond to him. Spirits whisper things they should not know. And every clever solution leaves another trace for the world to follow. But the world is changing. The zones are deepening. Spirits are waking. Institutions are hiding the truth behind doctrine and procedure. And beneath the ruins, something vast has begun to move. If Ilyan wants to save this broken age, he will have to climb through the very system built to replace him. And this time, he cannot afford to become only what the world needs him to be.
