What the Ground Remembers

Every power in the world is a theft. Fire is stolen heat. Water is stolen rain. Stone, breath, light — all of it borrowed from somewhere, and the ground remembers every drop ever taken.
Aldric Thorn steals the one thing no one has dared touch in two hundred years. Not fire, not water, not stone. He pulls life — the bright thread inside every living thing — straight out of the world. At sixteen he lays his hand on the testing stone and turns a village square to ash, and the men who collect weapons like him drag him south in chains to learn exactly what he is.
What he learns is worse than he feared. He can take a life with a thought. He can give one back. And the last man who could do both set out to heal a dying world — and became the thing now scratching at the foundations of the keep, wearing a dead man's name.
There is only one road out, and it runs straight down. Aldric will learn to master the thing behind his heart one thread and one cost at a time, because three hundred miles north a little girl is being unmade one memory at a time, and he swore he would reach her before her name is gone. The only power that can save her is the same power that emptied a coastline.
Every Lord in the Realm will kill to own his answer to a single question: be the cure, or be the curse.
No one has ever managed to be only one.
Dark progression fantasy. A hard magic system where every gain is paid for in the soil, a slow-burning descent, and a brother who refuses to forget. Graphic violence and body horror. No sexual content.
