Legacy: A Short Story

Legacy: A Short Story

ActionDramaGrimdarkMale LeadMythos

Legacy is a grim superhero tragedy about Isaiah Freeman, a Black Superman-like hero known to the world as Sol Invictus, who spends his life saving humanity while slowly abandoning his own family. Raised with the lesson that his strength would only be accepted if he appeared controlled, calm, and non-threatening, Isaiah becomes the world’s safest symbol: a tireless savior, public servant, and living monument. But behind the myth is a husband who misses his wife Naomi’s illness and a father who repeatedly fails his son, Malachi. When a government prediction engine warns that Malachi may one day become powerful enough to kill him, Isaiah responds not with trust, but with fear. He monitors, restricts, and emotionally distances himself from his son, believing he is protecting the world. In truth, he creates the very monster he was trying to prevent. Years later, Isaiah faces his greatest enemy: the Eclipse, a Meridian-powered villain who brings Halcyon City to ruin. As Isaiah lies dying beneath his own statue, the villain reveals himself to be Malachi, his lost son. Their final confrontation becomes less a battle of strength than a reckoning between father and child. Isaiah realizes that his legacy was never the cities he saved, the statues built in his honor, or the world that worshiped him. His true legacy is the wounded son he neglected. In the end, Isaiah finally chooses his son over the world, but the choice comes too late. Malachi kills him, the Meridian energy scars the city forever, and father and son die in each other’s arms. The world remembers Sol Invictus as a hero, but the truth is darker: he conquered every disaster except the distance between himself and his child. Legacy is an allegory about work-life balance, Black fatherhood, public expectation, and generational damage. With echoes of Oedipus and Cronus, it explores how fear, duty, and ambition can turn love into absence, and how the greatest job a person is given may be the one waiting quietly at home.
