Rustbound

*Summary: _Rustbound*_  _Rustbound_ is a dark progression fantasy about identity, power, and the cost of pretending. *Premise:*   Chen Wuya is trash—an outer disciple in a cultivation sect with no talent, no name, and no future. Everything changes when he finds a rusted shard that grows stronger by devouring metal. In a culling match, Wuya accidentally kills Liu Ren, a talented inner disciple. Desperate to survive, he steals Liu Ren’s soulbound identity token and wears his robes, his name, and his life. *The Magic = The Lie:*   The Rust Shard can only bond to someone with a “recognized” identity. As an outer disciple, Wuya’s shard barely works. But when he steals Liu Ren’s token, the shard latches on fully and his power spikes. The catch: the token is soulbound to Liu Ren’s corpse. Every time Wuya uses the shard while pretending to be Liu Ren, it carves Liu Ren’s memories, voice, and aura into him. Wuya’s own memories start rusting away. *Conflict:*   Wuya slips into Liu Ren’s life—better training, respect, a fiancée named Mei who touches his face and says his eyes look older. He’s good at pretending. Too good. Su Lian, Elder Mo’s attendant, knows the truth but says nothing. The shard gets stronger the more he commits to the lie, but Liu Ren’s memories keep bleeding into his mind. *Stakes:*   Wuya has to choose between two kinds of death. If he keeps pretending, he’ll become Liu Ren completely and lose Chen Wuya forever. If he tells the truth, he loses the shard’s power and goes back to being nobody in the outer court—where people like him die quietly. The worst part: the longer he wears the mask, the less he remembers which choice is the lie. *Core Question:* _If you had to wear someone else’s life to survive, how long before you forget your own name?_
