Decades from now, someone wakes from a long slumber. They find themselves in a place where all seems new, and the grinding of metal on metal, and the voices of workers toiling, and the look of stars like rain beyond the hatches, all catch their breath. Her breath. She is an android they say. A being between human and machine, never quite one or the other. Some look at her funny because of it, some fear her, some only see the light in her eyes, but most have more important things to do. And within the giant exchange platform orbiting Trapist-1, while she searches for purpose, a song plays where miners go to die, and maybe the time to figure out her own identity is counted after all.- Participant in the June 2026 Community Magazine Contest -Cover homemade on Figma using free Unsplash images.
