Decades from now, someone wakes from a long slumber. They find themselves in a place where all seems new, and the grinding of metal on metal, and the voices of workers toiling, and the look of stars like rain beyond the hatches, all catch their breath. Her breath. She is an android they say. A being between human and machine, never quite one or the other. Some look at her funny because of it, some fear her, some only see the light in her eyes, but most have more important things to do. And within the giant exchange platform orbiting Trapist-1, while she searches for purpose, a song plays where miners go to die, and maybe the time to figure out her own identity is counted after all.- Participant in the June 2026 Community Magazine Contest -Cover homemade on Figma using free Unsplash images. What to Expect: - Android protagonist navigating her purpose- Cyberpunky background with societal changes (technology regression)- Slow-burn cosmic horror- Detective subplot- Space setting- Short chapters (1.5k words) and relatively short story (expected 30k words/20 chapters) but will serve to expand towards my next universe in novel size

Hidden gem — exposure is the bottleneck
Readers who find this story follow it at a high rate; there just aren't enough of them. In our cohort data, near-daily posting lifted the odds of reaching 25 followers from ~0% to 17% — more chapters, shoutout swaps and ads buy the eyeballs this conversion deserves.
Benchmarks: 8,060 active Royal Road stories, percentiles within the 10–19 chapters band, cohort of 2026-07-02. Conversion is measured as followers gained per 1,000 views lifetime.
