Mira escaped her life as a serf to become a secret villein in the city, changing her name to Giradin. There she disguised herself as a man and took up a job as a cobbler, joining the West End Cobbler's Guild. Things seemed to be going as well as they could, until a handsome knight came into her shop one day, driving off bullies and praising her craftsmanship. Giradin found herself instantly smitten, and terrified that her true sex and her true identity might be discovered if she was not careful whenever the chivalrous knight comes around again.
