At its heart, this is old school high fantasy. Think Tolkien meets Robin Hobb. Literary, character-driven, and built for readers who still believe a story should make you fall in love with a world before it takes everything away. Nebrier is a wood elf ranger. Sionna is shadow-touched and runs toward danger like it owes her money. They've known each other their whole lives and they're only just figuring out what that means, right as something thought buried forty years ago starts pulling itself out of the ground. Chapter One is warm. It gets darker. Fair warning.
