Arslan, a warrior of the Kipchak steppes, falls in his final battle against the Mongol invasion. Dying on the blood-soaked grass, he believes only Barzakh awaits him — the realm between life and death. But instead of the afterlife, he opens his eyes in an unfamiliar land. Knowing neither the language, nor the laws, nor the customs of this realm, Arslan becomes a stranger among strangers. Yet even here, he refuses to forget those he has lost.
