by Adrian Beck
The world ended once. Humanity survived. No one remembers how. In the shadow of the Wall, Riven Kurozaki has built a life for himself in the Night Market. He has never cared much about humanity's forgotten past—or the wastelands it left behind. Until something from that past recognizes him. Ancient technology reacts to his presence. Memories that aren't his begin to surface. And the strange crimson fracture in his chest may be connected to something buried long before he was born. Riven has no intention of saving the world. He wants to know what was done to him. And why something that should have died with the old world seems to remember him.

Both levers trail the field
Traffic and conversion are both below comparable stories. Cadence is the first lever — stories posting near-daily reached 25 followers 17% of the time; stories posting every few days almost never did. Get the flow going, then re-check conversion.
Benchmarks: 8,060 active Royal Road stories, percentiles within the 10–19 chapters band, cohort of 2026-07-02. Conversion is measured as followers gained per 1,000 views lifetime.
