Book 1 Synopsis — The Secrets of Cedar Hollow An injured pigeon crashes into Jackie Lawson’s backyard with a coded note tied to its leg. That should be the weirdest thing to happen in Cedar Hollow all summer. It is not. The message pulls Jackie, her sharp-tongued younger brother Max, cautious nature-smart Holly, and gadget-building Eddie into a mystery the town has spent years laughing off as ghost stories and old rumors. Cedar Mansion is supposed to be abandoned. Willow Caves are supposed to be dangerous but empty. Henry Blackwell is supposed to be Cedar Hollow’s most respectable citizen. All three things are lies. A stolen transmitter, hidden symbols, missing Historical Society crates, and a midnight shipment point to something buried under the town’s legends: a real smuggling route running through old walls, cave passages, and forgotten records. The deeper the Squad digs, the more they realize someone powerful is counting on adults dismissing them as kids chasing stories. But Jackie and her friends are done being dismissed. They have one wounded bird, one coded warning, one missing gadget, and just enough courage to get in over their heads. To expose the truth, they will need Max’s proof, Holly’s instincts, Eddie’s inventions, and Jackie’s leadership before Cedar Hollow’s secrets disappear underground forever. The town thinks its old stories are harmless. The Adventure Squad is about to prove otherwise.

Both levers trail the field
Traffic and conversion are both below comparable stories. Cadence is the first lever — stories posting near-daily reached 25 followers 17% of the time; stories posting every few days almost never did. Get the flow going, then re-check conversion.
Benchmarks: 8,060 active Royal Road stories, percentiles within the 20–49 chapters band, cohort of 2026-07-02. Conversion is measured as followers gained per 1,000 views lifetime.
