by Guinea Pig
In the final years before the Great Catastrophe, when the foundations of human civilization stood on the verge of collapse, the surviving nations secretly initiated humanity’s final project — the “Order of the Old Era.” They knew that their civilization no longer had any hope of survival, yet humanity itself might still endure in another form. The greatest minds of the era were selected for the project. Their memories, personalities, and cognitive structures were completely digitized and preserved within quantum servers buried deep beneath the earth. Once the Catastrophe had passed, the system would awaken and upload their consciousness into genetically perfected artificial bodies — vessels designed to survive and adapt to the new world — so that human civilization could rise again from the ruins. But the project failed. No one knew what had happened during the endless ages of silence. Thousands of years later, when the final system finally reactivated, only one person awakened. He opened his eyes within a flawless artificial body endowed with enhanced neural networks, accelerated cognition, and terrifying adaptive capabilities. Yet the world he awakened to had already become utterly unrecognizable. Churches ruled the continents in the name of gods. Beyonders walked the world as beings standing above ordinary humans. Ancient kingdoms, hidden organizations, and terrifying sealed artifacts controlled the shadows of civilization, while the science of the Old Era had long since vanished from history. In an age where people consumed Beyonder potions in pursuit of divinity, he was the final remnant of humanity’s pre-catastrophe science — an existence that belonged to no Pathway, served no deity, and should not have existed in the current era. And the closer he came to uncovering the truth behind the Great Catastrophe, the more horrifying the secrets hidden beneath the world became.
