by James Foster Reed
What began as a simple desire to watch birds from a home office window became an escalating arms race between one determined homeowner and a squirrel of apparently supernatural persistence. Along the way: a sword fight in a Massachusetts living room, a severed tail, a lesson in psychological warfare courtesy of Vlad the Impaler, Yankee ingenuity involving a flagpole and a box wrench, and the dawning realization that the squirrel may be winning. Man v. Rockey is a comic essay about stubbornness, resourcefulness, and the humbling experience of being outsmarted by something that weighs eighteen ounces.
