Coming of age fantasy story. Heroic journey. Young romance.
Twelve-year-old Kitaro is a bully, a thief, and the self-appointed ruler of the village streets. He fears nothing—not the peacekeepers, not the temple masters, and certainly not the legends surrounding the forbidden forest.
Then his arrogance costs him everything.
Lost deep within the forest, Kitaro stumbles upon the legendary Sword of Destiny and barely survives an attack by a monstrous wolf. Scarred and humbled, he seeks refuge at the Temple of Peace, where he is given an unexpected chance to rebuild his life.
Over the next eight years, Kitaro transforms from troublemaker to warrior under the guidance of the wise Master Satoshi and the stern weapons master Ito. Along the way he forms an unlikely friendship with Mizuki, a determined young wolf whose own dreams challenge centuries of tradition. As friendship blossoms into love, both earn the chance to compete in the Grand Games, the province’s greatest martial tournament.
But beyond the mountains, an ancient evil has awakened.
The Sword of Destiny has been found, and the creature that once wielded it knows exactly where to look. When war threatens the land, Kitaro must leave behind everything he has worked to build and discover whether he is truly the hero the legends foretold—or merely the latest fool to carry a cursed blade.

A re-write of my first story (published on Amazon and Kindle) hastily without editing or proofreading (don't download from there unless comparing for improvements) Note: This story was originally written by me in 2012 and published in a limited print run. The current edition is a complete author revision and expansion. AI tools were used during editing for proofreading, continuity checks, and brainstorming, but all story content, characters, plot, and worldbuilding are my own work.
