He came to the borderlands to become a hero. The noticeboard had other plans. Colton Thorn came to the borderlands to become a hero. He expected danger, glory, levels, loot, and a party of brave companions at his side. The noticeboards promised clean work: clear the roads, protect the farms, kill the monsters, collect the reward. Simple. Then Colton joins the Black Banner Company and takes his first real goblin clearance contract. Blackcap Hollow should be the perfect heroic opportunity. A cave. A hostile warren. A legal bounty. A system-approved enemy. But beneath the hill are cooking fires, mushroom racks, patched curtains, frightened children, old debts, hidden water, and goblins who have learned exactly what humans mean when they call something a nest. The deeper Colton goes, the less the story makes sense. The system says there is no penalty. The guild says the work is lawful. His party says hard choices have to be made. And Colton Thorn is about to learn that violence was never the answer. It was a question. And the real question is who gets to decide which lives count.Expect at least one chapter per day to be published until completed.
