Before the Storm Five origins. One gate. A generation waiting to be forged. The academies teach control. Control is for those who can afford to lose. These five could not afford anything else. Zhentian — the last heir of a house that died before he could walk. The manor is mortgaged. The servants are gone. His father left him a set of illegal combat forms and a reduced-tuition scholarship his mother signed while her hands trembled. Huolin — a bastard raised in a stable. His father's guilt bought him secret training and a soldier who disappeared when the commander died. A recruiter watching an underground pit fight saw him win in seven seconds. He offered a charity placement. Huolin took it. Meiyue — a fisherman's daughter who stopped a storm with her bare hands while a cultivator watched from shore. He told her mother: Send her to the academy. Her mother sold their nets, their lines, their stores. Meiyue did not want to go. She went anyway. Shijun — an orphan of the Edge Watch tunnels, where his father died in a collapse and his mother followed years after. The compassionate scholarship was filed before he knew it existed. He had nowhere else to go. Tianyu — discovered on a ridgeline by a Stormcall recruiter who found him studying a Sky Lynx pack he had been tracking for eight years. The recruiter said: Come to the academy. Learn to finish what you started. Tianyu did not trust the offer. He was tired. He came anyway. None of them arrived by accident. This is not a story about heroes. It is about five teen agers who walked through the same gate in the same season because someone — a recruiter, a scholarship, a desperate mother — made it possible. Soon, they will meet a sixth. A boy the ground answers. Together, they will become something none of them expected. But that comes later. Before the Storm is a standalone origin anthology set in the world of the Deepcourt Heirs series. . The full novel cycle begins with Book 1: Where the Ground Remembers, available on Amazon KDP.
