Jacob Parkingsons was never meant to matter. A simple soldier of the Iron Covenant, he was captured during the chaos following the plague. Tortured and broken by his High Elf captors, Parkingsons makes a desperate bargain with demons in exchange for survival. But when Prince Elyndor arrives and cuts through his would-be saviors, Parkingsons is killed — only to be raised again as one of the undead. Now bound to Elyndor’s will, Parkingsons becomes a warlock in service to the dead. His presence, however, creates an unexpected problem. Because he carries demons within him, certain truths cannot be spoken in his presence. When Elyndor raises his former mentor, Kel’Varen, as a lich, the ancient mage refuses to speak of the dreadlords until Parkingsons is sent away. Through it all, Parkingsons remains what he has always been: a witness. He watches as Elyndor makes a vow that no love or attachment will be tolerated among his ranks. He stands present as the prince learns the true purpose behind the plague and the path laid out before him. Parkingsons does not shape these events. He simply survives them.
