The war is over. The banners came down. The songs went up.The demon king is dead. The world exhaled a breath it had been holding for a decade, and in the celebration that followed, everyone found their ...after. Everyone except Verneuil. His party scattered to thrones and graves and quiet lives. The kingdoms that once begged for him now hang his portrait in halls he'll never visit. Children say his name like a prayer. Scholars write chapters about his final blow — the moment he put his bare fist through the chest of the demon king and walked out of the Sunken Throne without a word. Nobody thought to ask what he walked toward. So he walks. No destination. No mission. Just a worn pack, a road with no name, and the unbearable silence of a man who was built for one purpose and has now outlived it. But the world doesn't stay quiet for long. Because something is wrong with the peace. In the places the demon king once ruled, reality is thinning. Ancient things are stirring in the dark between worlds — things the demon king, it turns out, was never just a villain. He was a lock. And Verneuil broke him open. Now, on a road he didn't choose, Verneuil keeps moving — and the world keeps finding him. A general's daughter who rebuilds what heroes destroy and has no patience for his silence. A scholar who follows him like he's a puzzle she refuses to leave unsolved. A former enemy commander who looks at him and sees, for the first time, someone who understands exactly what she is. None of them are looking for a hero. Neither is he. What follows is not another quest. It's something harder — a man who has broken kingdoms trying to figure out if there's anything left inside him worth keeping. Every fight is a conversation he won't have with words. Every step east is a question he doesn't know how to ask. Who are you, when the war is over? Verneuil doesn't have the answer yet. But whatever is waking in the dark isn't going to wait for him to find it. --- An epic of identity, consequence, and the people who find you when you're trying to stay lost. ---
