When Lieutenant Brennan orders me to run out of the trench and draw enemy fire, my first thought is that he’s an idiot. Which is apparently not the correct response for a Hegemony combat unit. I’m Unit Eight, a war machine built to follow orders, kill enemies, and generally make terrible days even worse for everyone involved. I’m also only eleven days old, which means I’m still figuring a few things out. For example: Why am I capable of refusing orders? Why do I keep saving civilians instead of following my combat directives? And why does every decision I make seem to involve explosions, gunfire, and people screaming my name while running for their lives? After disobeying a direct command during a massacre on the occupied world of Diesl’Haal, I become the most wanted machine in Hegemony space. Now I’m stuck with a group of rebels hiding inside a mountain base. And unfortunately for everyone involved, the Hegemony has noticed me. Newsflash: when a galactic empire realizes one of its weapons has started thinking for itself, it tends to overreact with dreadnoughts. I’m a Weapon is a fast-paced military sci-fi adventure packed with massive battles, rogue AI, dark humor, rebellion, found family, and a heavily armed android making increasingly questionable life choices. Perfect for fans of The Murderbot Diaries, Firefly, and Expanse.
