Lu Xing is a nobody. Broke freelance writer. Shabby apartment. Side job hauling furniture up five flights of stairs. The kind of guy the city swallows whole. Then something drags him back to the place he was born—a rural county where the sky caught fire twenty-eight years ago. Where a meteorite crashed and was never spoken of again. Underground, he finds two shards. One blazing with every color. The other devouring light itself. The moment he steps close, they brand his chest with twin marks—and tear his body apart to rebuild it stronger. Superhuman strength. Senses that cut through the dark. Power that surges without warning—and he can't control any of it. He's not the only one who felt the awakening. Guixu watches. They've monitored the supernatural for decades. They call it containment. It looks like control. The Strangers hunt. Exiles from a realm between worlds, chasing these fragments across generations. They don't ask. They take. Someone else plays a longer game. Moving pieces since before Lu Xing was born. Leaving old photographs on his doorstep. Knowing his name before he speaks it. Everyone wants the shards. Nobody cares if the vessel survives. The marks chose him. He never got a say. Now he has to decide—stay a pawn, or start playing the board himself.
