Soul Notary

A man from a modern Earth-like world wakes in the sub-basement of a foreign city with a class he was never meant to have. He is now the first Soul Notary issued in over four hundred years. The class has been deliberately erased. The world he has entered does not know what he is. He doesn't, yet, either. Harlan finds himself in Clacis, the outermost working-class district of Veyra, a megalopolis built atop the largest concentration of dungeons on the continent. The dungeons are dangerous places where adventurers go and sometimes come back rich, sometimes don't come back at all. What the locals do not know is that the dungeons are not dungeons. They are "dolphins," the defensive infrastructure of a broken cosmic bridge, engineered slopes that absorb the impact of drifting realms. The dungeons are killing-grounds for cosmological wreckage. The lesser realities that strike them break apart, and what survives the impact is what locals call monsters and loot. What the locals do not call them, what they were called by the builders is foreign substrate. Souls. Fragments of people from worlds that no longer exist.
