In the Mystic west, humans are not the only monsters walking the earth. Werewolves haunt the mountain passes. Fairies lure travelers from the roads. Ghouls pick through the wreckage left behind. Vampires move through the cities like smoke. For generations, the Baudelaire family has made it their business to hunt these creatures down—a network of operatives with reach that now spans the globe. Jason Avery, given the choice between joining them and facing execution, chooses to live. What he does not expect is to find, somewhere in the violence and the duty, something that begins to feel like a reason.
